Zest Badminton Academy is organising the third Sunrise Yonex Zest Open Badminton Tournament at its courts in Basundhara from Wednesday.
A total of 305 players from 43 teams — 14 districts, 23 clubs and six schools — are taking part in the five-day tournament that carries a cash purse of Rs 380,000, informed the organisers at a press meet today.
The tournament features nine events — men’s singles, men’s doubles (open), men’s doubles (except for top 20), women’s singles, mixed doubles, U-15 boys, U-15 girls, Masters 35 and Masters 45, informed tournament coordinator and chief coach Sudip Yonjan.
Top three shuttlers in men’s singles will receive Rs 30,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000, while the winners of the tournament in women’s and men’s doubles (open) sections will earn Rs 25,000, Rs 12,000 and Rs 8,000 respectively.
Likewise, U-15 category winners will get Rs 16,000, Rs 8,000 and Rs 6,000, whereas top three in Masters and mixed doubles categories will earn Rs 20,000, Rs 12,000 and 8,000 respectively. The winners in men’s doubles (except top 20) will get Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
“The tournament is one of the major events in badminton fraternity as the winners will also get ranking points from Nepal Badminton Association,” said ZBA President Madhu Sudan Pathak.
NBA President Ramji Bahadur Shrestha lauded ZBA for its selfless contribution in badminton.
“The ZBA is organising the prestigious tournament every year and also helping us in conducting the badminton activities of NBA,” Shrestha added.
