DOTI: Campaigners of Chhaupadi elimination in the district have called for declaring Doti a Chhaupadi free district.
Chhaupadi is the tradition in which menstruation is treated as a social taboo, and girls and women are secluded in sheds outside their homes during their period.
The demand has come when the tradition is taking an ugly form in Sudurpaschim Province including Doti district.
Participants of the national campaign against Chhaupadi held at Silgadhi, district headquarters of Doti, called for framing strong laws to eliminate such ill practices.
On the occasion, lawmaker Binda Pandey asked the local levels to stand tough against the presence of such wrong practices of the society.
The campaign was attended by Doti District Coordination Committee Coordinator Ram Bahadur Eir, chiefs and deputy chiefs of all nine local governments in the district and ward chairs.
