Baitadi, October 26
Health workers have been providing treatment to patients from a dilapidated building at Chaukham Health Post in Sigas Rural Municipality-9, Baitadi.
The health post with three rooms was established in 1996. The building, which has developed cracks, may collapse any time.
“We have been providing health services to patients risking our lives,” said health post in-charge Hemanta Singh Saud at the health post. He said it had been long time since thermometer, stethoscope, weighing machine, beds, among others, were not replaced.
“Drinking water shortage has also hit the health service hard,” informed health post in-charge Saud.
Similar problems are seen at Safe Delivery Centre in Kankada, which is at a two-hour walking distance from Chaukham Health Post.
As many as four to five women visit the delivery centre every month. The delivery centre provides its services using old and traditional equipment.
“We are compelled to provide delivery service from the dilapidated building,” said auxiliary mid-wife Uttam Paneru.
She added that they had been providing delivery service by lighting the mobile torch lights due to abysmal electricity management.
Ward chair Laxmi Devi Chand said the ward office could do nothing to address the problems. She added that she had been coordinating with the rural municipality and other authorities concerned to resolve the problem.
